There are 9 partners at the Omnia Practice (five male and four female) and also two female GPs employed by the partnership, who all believe that the patients in this area of Birmingham should receive the highest standard of primary care. We aim and offer a range of services to meet local needs and this is reflected in the different skills of the doctors and practice staff.
One Partner works as a clinical assistant in Respiratory Medicine at the Chest Clinic run by Birmingham Heartlands Hospital. Life is not all about clinical medicine and currently one partner is Executive Chair of Birmingham East and North PCT and another is Sexual Health Clinic Lead for BEN PCT.
The majority of our patients live fairly close to the surgery in Small Heath / Bordesley Green although some patients live further out in Yardley, Sheldon and on the Solihull borders. We have an ethnic mix comprising about 25% patients with origins in the Indian subcontinent and a wide social class base. There are pockets of high unemployment and we see a very diverse range of diseases amongst our population.
We work from a modern purpose built medical centre which is currently undergoing a major new build expansion and refurbishment to the older building. It is also a base for District Nurses, Midwives, Health Visitors, Dentists, Physiotherapists and Chiropodists and we have just welcomed the teams of district nurses, health visitors and the PCT Continence Team into the new wing. We are closely linked to the local community.
The practice is open weekdays from 8:30am until 6:45pm with late evening appointment available which can be booked in advance on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursday evenings. We run a mix of surgeries and clinics throughout the day. There are clinics in child health, diabetes, sexual health, COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), substance abuse, travel health and minor surgery. Psychiatric Team and a Citizens Advice Bureau worker visits on a weekly basis
The doctors have a variety of more specialist interests. Some undertake a role with continence and leg ulcer management using a laser. We are able to offer endometrial biopsies in house and the whole range of contraception and sexual health services. As an instructing family planning practice we undertake practical training for the DFSRH – a higher level certificate in contraception and sexual health which many GP’s wish to obtain. There is ample opportunity for doctors and nurses to learn coil fitting and implant techniques. Sexual health services are available all day and every day with doctors and highly trained nurses who are all able to fit coils and implants.

We are delighted to be able to offer the use of our new meeting rooms to external groups. Learn more here.
