Green Roots: Allotments For Health

Grow. Connect. Improve Your Wellbeing.

Omnia Medical Practice is pleased to support a new Gardening & Wellbeing Programme at Bordesley Green Allotments, delivered by The Active Wellbeing Society.

These free sessions provide a welcoming outdoor space where patients and members of the local community can spend time in nature, learn how to grow their own food, develop practical gardening skills, and connect with others in a relaxed and supportive environment.

You don’t need any gardening experience – just come along and enjoy being outdoors.

🌱 Why Gardening Helps Wellbeing

Spending time outdoors and engaging in gentle gardening activities can have powerful benefits for both physical and mental health.

Participants often experience:

β€’ Improved mood and reduced stress
β€’ Gentle physical activity in fresh air
β€’ A sense of achievement and purpose
β€’ Opportunities to meet new people
β€’ Increased confidence and wellbeing

Nature-based activities are increasingly recognised as an important part of supporting overall health.

🌻 What You Can Take Part In

Across the sessions, participants will have the opportunity to learn and experience:

β€’ Growing fruit, vegetables and herbs
β€’ Seed sowing and plant care
β€’ Preparing soil and planting beds
β€’ Seasonal gardening skills
β€’ Harvesting and food growing
β€’ Composting and sustainable gardening
β€’ Creating wildlife-friendly spaces

All activities are guided and suitable for beginners.

Those with more gardening experience are also welcome to join, share their knowledge, and support others – helping to build a stronger and more connected community.
